The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

By Deborah Moggach

Anant is an actor from Madhya Pradesh, India, who began his career with The Atelier Repertory Company in New Delhi, where he toured with shows across North India as a dedicated company member. Seeking to refine his craft, he trained at East 15 Acting School in London, earning a Masters in Acting. In 2020, he was awarded an endorsement from Arts Council England under the Global Talent Scheme, turning his dream of staying and advancing his career in London into reality. He is now represented by Scott Marshall Partners, one of Britain’s leading talent agencies.

Anant made his UK stage debut in 2022 playing the roles of 'Mohan & Tikal' in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by Lucy Bailey starring Hayley Mills and Paul Nicholas. Based on the Sunday Times bestseller which inspired one of this century’s most treasured films, the production staged over 250 performances in 34 prestigious venues across the UK and Ireland. He also played the lead role of ‘Sonny’ during the show’s special voyage aboard the world’s only remaining ocean liner, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York. In the same year, Anant appeared as ‘Mr Singh’ in Oliver Hermanus’ Living alongside Bill Nighy and Aimee Lou Wood. Penned by Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, the film received global critical acclaim and was nominated for two Academy Awards.

Moving ahead on his theatrical journey, in 2023, Anant played the lead role of ‘Daniel’ in The Vanishing Room, a time bending epic at The English Theatre Frankfurt in Germany. Spanning across two centuries, the ambitious story was co-written and directed by David Byrne, his final production at New Diorama Theatre before taking over as Artistic Director of The Royal Court Theatre in 2024.

Anant’s talents extend to voice work, where in 2024, he voiced ‘Jamal’ in Big Finish’s long running Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood: Sabotage. He also gave life to ‘Clelio’ in the audiobook, Eve Out of Her Ruins by Neustadt Prize Laureate, Ananda Devi.

In 2025, Anant is excited for the release of Shootiyapa, a horror-comedy feature directed by Ajay Arora, where he plays 'Tarish' and Sharmila Chauhan's audio drama, Until My Last Breath where he voices 'Irfan'. Directed by Jatinder Verma, this project is commissioned for The National Archives to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
